While I'm not 100% sure about this idea yet, but I wanted to share it. I want to make a zine about how your hair, nails, and your body and general stores memories. Whether those memories are traumatic, life changing, or everyday feelings, I think it's interesting to look at how the body remembers those things. I have long hair and nails (that are real) and I find it interesting that the very ends of my hair and nails are from a different time. The skin holds memories until you exfoliate or until the skin cells die and fall off. I think it's interesting to look at the idea of people changing their appearance after a traumatic event or break up, seemingly in effort to get rid of the part of you body that holds those memories. In contrast, it's interesting to think about how your body naturally loses eyelashes, hair, skin cells, etc instead of us changing it. The things you can change about your appearance and body says something about your past and what has driven you to change it. I have a scar on my body and I choose not to get it lasered or do any work on it because it holds a memory and reminds me of what I've gone through. Yet, people get rid of their scars because they don't want that reminder anymore. Your body holds memories and feelings, do you want to change that? Does getting rid of your hair, nails, scars, etc get rid of the memory, or is it just an effort to forget?
